THIS SATURDAY 19TH JUNE
There are three events:
The Boys' 1st VIII are at Marlow (at Dorney Lake)
Claire Rafferty is in the junior singles at Womens' Henley
There are 4 D Boys' quads, 2 D Girls' quads, a C Boys four, C Boys' quad, and C Girls' quad at Tewkesbury Regatta. There are details in the 'fixtures' section.
There were two event wins from the regattas on the 12th June. The Boys 1st VIII won the Novice Eights at Reading Amateur (they won two rounds and finished runners-up to Eton's J16 Eight, which was subsequently found to be ineligible). Hannah Caplin and Misty Thorn won the Womens' Novice Doubles at Marlow Town. Claire Rafferty fought hard in a very close final of the WJ singles, and the D boys double (Coghlan/O'Keefe) were runners-up in the J14 Doubles.
At the friendly regatta with canford and Monkton on Sunday 13th June Bryanston won six of the 14 events. We would like to thank all the parents for their support.
NATIONAL SCHOOLS' REGATTA
The Club achieved the best overall success at this event for many years. Seven Boys' crews competed. Every single one got through the time trial stage, and four of them reached their finals. There were two fifth places, a fourth, and once again BRONZE MEDALS for the D boys B Quad. Claire Rafferty just missed getting through the time trial of the Championship Girls' singles.
There were three wins from regattas on the 22nd June. Claire Rafferty won the Womens' IM2 Singles, and Olivia Boote and Mia O'Toole won the WJ16 Doubles at Bristol Avon, while Tom Briggs won the Mens' J15 Singles at Walton. There were many other excellent performances and close races.
There were great performances all round at Thames Ditton Regatta, a runners-up place for Harry Aitchison in MJ16 Singles (after four rounds) and two event wins for the D Boys B quad in MJ14 B Coxed quads and for Tom Briggs in MJ15 Single Sculls.
The D Boys A quad secured a good result from Wallingford Regatta (six lane racing over 2000m). They were runners-up to Windsor Boys School in the final.
The Switzerland Trip was a great success; the return journey more interesting, courtesy of the Icelandic Volcano.
This weekend (1st/2nd May) the seniors are training at Henley and attending the Buffalo Dinner.
2010 SPRING TERM
14 rowers are looking forward to the SWITZERLAND TRAINING CAMP at Lake Sarnen near Lucerne from the 9th to the 16th April. This is likely to be our last visit to this venue because of rising costs. The 2011 camp is likely to be in France.
Click here for results from the National Junior Sculling Head. Encouraging performances from our D boys and C boys A quad sculls, with their B crews backing them up close behind.
BSBC had a successful day at Avon County Head (6th March). Well done to all the rowers, many of whom raced twice, and thank you to all the parents who came to support.
We won FIVE events: Mens J14 Quads (D boys), Mens J15 Doubles (C boys), Mens J16 Singles (Harry Aitchison), Mens J18 Fours (Senior boys), and Mens J18 Singles (Luke Holman).
There were runners-up places for the D Boys B crew, the C Boys A quad, the B Boys double, and the C girls quad.
Claire Rafferty had no opposition in her J18 category but did beat all 14 of the other junior girl singles.
On Saturday 27th February we held a friendly three way event with Canford and Monkton, at Bryanston. Thisl involved all our D boys and girls, and about half of our C boys. A big THANK YOU to all the parents who supported this occasion. The weather was kind to us and Bryanston crews won every category. Detailed results will follow. Also thanks to big buffalo ALAN SHRIMPTON, Richard Ball, and our fantastic caterers for the Buffet afterwards.
Some of the girls raced at the Thames Valley Time Trial on 31st January. The coxless quad were first out of one, and the two doubles finished 8th in the J18 and J16 events. Claire Rafferty put in a strong performance in the WJ18 singles finishing 5th out of 11. She loved it so much she then raced twice more in fours with Poole Rowing Club.
Harry Aitchison and Claire Rafferty are preparing for the GB junior sculling trials on 21st November and we wish them the very best.
A nice result for Harry Aitchison and Claire Rafferty in the Pairs Head of the River. We have not entered a crew in this event as long as I can remember. Harry and Claire were 4th out of 11 in Intermediate 3 mixed double sculls. They overtook 5 crews and were faster than one of the IM2 doubles. 182nd overall out of nearly 400 boats. Congratulations to Pete Wells on his 7th place overall.
Five event wins at Monkton Head ! Well done to Claire Rafferty (W Jun and W IM2 1x), Harry Aitchison (J16 1x), Lizzie Post & Hannah Caplin (W Nov 2x), and the C Boys Quad Scull (J15 4x). It was a good day all-round. Details will follow, Claire was the 2nd fastest Womens' single out of 13 and Harry the 4th fastest out of lots.
Congratulations to Harry Aitchison on an impressive 7th place out of 24 in the J16 singles at Wallingford Long Distance Sculls.
2009 SUMMER TERM
BSBC WIN 20 EVENTS IN REGATTAS
Final successes from the year.....
The Club won no less than FIVE of the seven events entered at Reading Town Regatta: Womens' Intermediate 2 Doubles, Womens' Intermediate 3 Fours, Mens' J15 Quads, Womens' J15 Quads, Womens' J14 Quads...an outstanding day.
Although painfully close to qualifying (2 or 3 seconds off) the Boys' 1st VIIII put in a superb row at Henley. This is a young crew, and the plan is a long term one...to commit now to return next year stronger and faster and qualify for the Princess Elizabeth Cup 2010.
Representing Bryanston at the National Rowing Championships on 17th/18th July:
Harry Aitchison in Mens' J15 Singles.
Henry Hill/Tom Hughes-Chamberlain in Mens' J15 Doubles.
ANOTHER GOOD WEEKEND (20/21st June)
Six event wins including a clean sweep for the D Boys' Quads at Tewkesbury.
The A,B, and C crews all won their events against a total of 24 other crews. The D Quad finished runners-up to the C in the third event. At Thames Valley Park Regatta, Claire Rafferty won the WJ17 Singles and Jimmy Leigh and Harry Aitchison won the Mens' Junior Doubles.
Monday 22nd June: The Senior Girls braved the waves to go out in two coastal fours at Bournemouth Rowing Club whilst a certain coach sat on the beach.
WALTON REGATTA Although we didn't manage any pots there was excellent and close racing all day from ALL our crews. Harry Aitchison (single), Henry Hill/Tom Hughes-Chamberlain (double) and the D Boys A quad all got through their first round, the latter beating Hampton A by 3 feet in a real thriller. The quad then beat Tideway Scullers to reach their semi-final where they came up against a very classy Windsor Boys Quad.
NATIONAL SCHOOLS' REGATTA
Seven crews competed...more than in recent years. Three of them did well enough to get through the initial time trial stage into semi-finals: Harry Aitchison was 11th in his time trial out of no less than 40 MJ15 Single scullers, and the D Boys A and B Quads both got through. The best result came from the D Boys B quad who took the bronze medals in the MJ14 4x+ (ii) event. BSBC have not come back with medals for 13 years !!! Well done to Alex Cruickshank, Fergus Simpson, Rufus Martin, Dougie Stewart, and James Daniels.
BSBC WON SEVEN EVENTS ON SATURDAY 16th May!!
At Thames Ditton Regatta MJ14 B Quads (Moore, Briggs, Backhouse, Rowe, Jay) and MJ15 Fours (Geake, Aitchison, Hill, Hughes-Chamberlain, Hughes).

A new erg record for C boys...Harry Aitchison did 2000m in 6:49 and Phil Hughes in 6:50 !!
The Buffaloes support the Boat Club in many ways, and provide a network for parent support and for Old Bryanstonian rowers to keep in touch. All rowing parents receive the Buffalo Bulletins. Leaving students are offered a special subscription to join the Buffaloes when they step out into the big wide world.
