HAPPY 60TH BIRTHDAY TO TONY TAYLOR

BORNE REGATTA TAKES PLACE THIS SATURDAY (10TH MAY) - click on "fixtures" for some details.

At Chiswick Regatta there were no event wins, sadly, but there were some good races. The senior girls S4 Four lost their straight final to Twickenham by 1 foot. The C Boys and B Boys boldly fought very strong opposition. The girls novice four did very well to knock out two winners from the first round, effectively finishing 3rd/14. Details are in "latest news and results"

The SWITZERLAND TRIP was outstanding. Details will follow.

We had a fantastic time at Henley on Saturday 26th Jan- the seniors had a useful training session and then attended the Buffalo Dinner in Leander. Another lovely occasion organised by Alan Shrimpton. Rumour has it Martin Hill is still there. It was great to see the 1978 crew there, and some recent oldies: Piers, Thea, Alix, Lizzie, and Bella.

The decision to enter a Boys' J14 Quad and Boys' J15 Quad in the National Schools' Regatta will be made in week 4.

A very encouraging end to the Spring term, with a good placing for the D boys octuple scull at the National Junior Sculling Head, four event wins at the Avon County Head, and two school erg records broken by Phil Hughes in D and Will Flint in B. CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS.

12 seniors and B's will be spending a week on Lake Sarnen in Switzerland for our annual training camp. Final details will be sent to parents very soon.

Thanks to all parents who came to support the Minihead.
It was very successful, despite the difficulties presented by the strong winds. There were event wins for the
C Boys Eight and the D Boys Octuple Scull, and plenty of other good performances. The
Buffaloes Committee hope you enjoyed the Buffet.

The Buffaloes support the Boat Club in many ways, and provide a network for parent support and for Old Bryanstonian rowers to keep in touch. All rowing parents receive the Buffalo Bulletins. Leaving students are offered a special subscription to join the Buffaloes when they step out into the big wide world.

On Monday 3rd March the C Boys A crew and D boys octuple are taking part in the National Junior Sculling Head at Henley. On Tuesday 4th March the senior boys' and girls' fours are taking part in the Schools' Head of the River between Hammersmith and Putney. Details of both these events are in the 'fixtures' section.

Thanks to the parents of D boys who came to the 'try it out' session...we hope you enjoyed the glorious weather and the experience of being on the water.

The friendly match at Avon County Rowing Club went very well; our B boys were persuaded to race in two mixed eights with some of AC's women (good preparation for Valentine's day). The B Boys and C Boys top crews came in with fast times; the C Girls double raced twice, and matched their two times exactly.

The next fixtures are as follows:

Sat 1st March: ALL C and D in the Minihead at Bryanston, starting at 2.30 approx. Parents should have received invitations to the Buffalo Buffet afterwards - please do book in - it is a very relaxed and short-lived occasion.

Mon 3rd March: National Junior Sculling Head (Henley)
One D Boys crew and One C Boys crew

Tues 4th March: Schools Head of the River (Barnes/Putney)
Boys' and Girls' Senior Fours

Sat 8th March: Avon County Head (near Bath)
Many crews will be involved in this.

WYCLIFFE BIG HEAD
was very cold and very long. Our results are not especially spectacular but WELL DONE to all the crews for facing up to the challenge with good spirits.

SPRING TERM 2008...

The Senior and B girls raced at the Thames Valley Trial Head at Dorney Lake, Eton on Sunday 27th. The coxless quad gained a creditable 5th place out of 7; the coxed four coped brilliantly with their rudder lines snapping early in the race..well done to the cox Milly Gould.

Well done to the brave D girls' parents who ventured out in a quad scull and double scull, ably coached through the basics by their patient offspring.

We hope to have a 'try it out' session for parents of D boys on Saturday 9th Feb at 3.15 approx. We will be contacting you by
e mail.

The senior boys and girls spent their first Saturday at Wimbleball Lake, a training facility near Taunton which we hope to make more use of in the future. The girls quad had a little problem staying upright, but sware they were sober.

Results from Monkton Small Boats Head, included two good wins for our doubles involving Ben Morgan, Theo Hammond, Lucy Antrobus, and Chloe Whitfield

Although the uptake for the Switzerland trip was slightly disappointing, it will be going ahead with 6 boys and 6 girls. The dates will be Sunday 30th March to Sunday 6th April, flying from Heathrow. Parents concerned will be sent details soon. For 2009 we will be considering reverting to running this trip primarily for C's. Even though almost every school boat club has an Easter training camp, we seem to be struggling to attract our senior rowers on our's becaues there are so many other things going on, which is a shame.

The Club has taken delivery of a new eight from Janousek Racing Boats and a set of rowing oars to match from Concept 2 this Autumn..

We ran a successful rowing course for local children during the summer holiday.
